Polar Bear vs Wongari – similarities in conservation risk management
The K’gari NRM wongari management team were approached by animal behaviouralist expert Nikita Ovsyanikov and his daughter Katya to meet the team and discuss non-lethal risk mitigation and animal behaviour in the human/wildlife interface.

FINIA Field Trip 2023
May 4th and 5th were the dates of this year’s FINIA annual tour of K’gari. Each year FINIA aims to have one two-day meeting on K’gari. FINIA is a community-based partnership dedicated to the protection of the K’gari World Heritage Area’s natural integrity and ecological assets to help ensure that all stakeholders are successfully cooperating in caring for K’gari.

Wongari Rescued from Crab Pot
Rangers on K’gari (Fraser Island) are accustomed to hearing the wongari (dingo) howl, so when they heard the recent cries from a juvenile, they knew it was in trouble.

Wanggoolba Creek Daga-minjugin Project Success
In October 2022, nine women spent two days clearing overgrown vegetation along heavily congested parts of Wanggoolba Creek next to the boardwalk at Central Station’s Day Use Area. Vegetation built-up in Wanggoolba Creek areas was to be reduced to restore hydrology/flow and improve the creek’s aesthetics.

Successful Partnership Preserves Butchulla Scarred Tree
A quick response from BAC Directors, Butchulla members and Land and Sea rangers, QPWS rangers and the Coastal and Islands teams means a significant scarred tree near Central Station on K’gari will be preserved well into the future.

Clearing Weeds in Beach Camping Areas
As part of this year’s 21st annual 4WD QLD K’gari (Fraser Island) clean-up event in May, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) managed to pry a few clubs away from the beach to assist in clearing weeds from several beach camping areas.

Aiding Bushfire Recovery on K’gari
On the morning of 2 June 2022, a team of volunteers recruited by the Fraser Island Defenders Organisation (FIDO) converged on Eurong to participate in the K’gari Coastal Foreshore Rehabilitation and Pandanus Project.
