Cultural burning on K’gari

In September 2024, the Burnett Mary Regional Group (BMRG) collaborated with Butchulla Traditional Owners to conduct cool burns on K’gari as part of the Galangoor Gira (Good Fire) project. These burns took place on one of their Aboriginal Freehold Land blocks, known as Oysterman’s Lease.

Butchulla Cultural Camp: Conserving Water Knowledge

The Butchulla Aboriginal Corporation’s (BAC) Butchulla Water Stories project has now moved into Phase 2, supported by a Great Barrier Reef Foundation Reef Trust Partnership Healthy Country grant.

FIDO Weather Station Upgrade

The FIDO weather network started in October 2015, to investigate John Sinclair’s observation that rainfall becoming more localised. The first station was established at Happy Valley with a subsequent station at Eurong in December 2016, followed by Cathedrals, and Orchid Beach in April 2019 and Kingfisher in September 2019 completing the current network.
