Watch out for Fire Ants after Wild Weather
The Invasive Species Council has called on communities in South-east Queensland and northern NSW to be on the alert for fire ants, warning that the recent heavy rainfall and wild weather in the region could accelerate the spread of the deadly pest.

The K’gari Fire Enhancement Team are prepping for the bushfire season with regular equipment maintenance and training days. ‘Fire-Gym’ is an initiative of the team 2IC, Rachel Killer to ensure the fire team and other fire-trained personnel keep their skills honed for bushfire season in a safe and fun environment.

This April, I and several other Conservation and Land Management students from TAFE Queensland were given the opportunity to take part in a seed collection project for the purpose of bush regeneration after the 2020 fires on the island.

In December, three members of the Butchulla Land and Sea Ranger (BLSR) team (Myles Broome, Blayde Foley and Jodie Rainbow) undertook training with volunteers from Sandy Cape Lighthouse Conservation Association and Aub Strydom, learning how to monitor marine turtles and relocate nests up at Sandy Cape.
