Fraser Island Friends of Parks
Four experienced and well-respected organisations have signed-on with QPWS to deliver an expanded volunteer program in about 50 parks and forests across Queensland until June 2015.
Under new Friends of Parks contracts, more than 20 part-time co-ordinators will be employed to recruit, train and manage volunteers for an estimated 68,000 hours of exciting new volunteer and voluntourism projects that assist front-line management of parks. (more…)
FIDO Bush Regeneration Trip

We are aiming at a minimum of 20 hours of volunteer work during the week.
Each day we will endeavour to visit different parts of the island for walks, talks, swims, sightseeing etc.
This project is run on a not for profit basis. All tools, accommodation, food, transport (to and from Brisbane or Sunshine Coast in 4WD vehicle) and island tours are provided.

This handy planting guide has been developed to assist landholders and land managers on Fraser Island in selecting local native plant species for use in gardens and landscaping.
Wilfie’s War on Woody Weeds – a story for children by John Sinclair
Wilfie and his Scout Patrol found a wonderful project for their Bob-a-Job week to raise money for their Scout group. An old man had offered to give the patrol 50 cents for every woody weed they removed from his valley on Fraser Island but only as long as they removed every single one. Wilfie and his patrol didn’t mind because there were hundreds of woody weeds and they expected to make a lot of money. Besides it would give them a chance to spend more time on beautiful Fraser Island. Even Wilfie’s dad was happy to help take the patrol over and do a spot of fishing while he was there.
The Last Easter Cassia – a children’s story by John Sinclair
Despite being the very best mates, Jacob Jones and Herbert Hancock were fiercely competitive. These two ten-year-olds challenged each other to see who could get the best marks in every subject at school, and who was the best athlete, who scored the most runs in cricket or who had the best computer game score. Life was an endless competition between these two friends. The competition was good for both of them because they were so evenly matched in both scholastic and sporting ability and the competition helped both of them improve their achievements. (more…)

Signage goes digital!
FINIA has led a number of communication initiatives over the years – starting with our Weed Information Shelters at Happy Valley and Eurong and the notice board at Orchid Beach. These were designed to provide a community space as well as information about some of the worst weed threats and our efforts to control them. (more…)
