UQ PhD research student Hieu Nguyen Thi is investigating the relationships between tourism impacts and community quality of life in nature-based tourism destinations.
Her research objectives are to identify:
(1) The community’s perceptions of tourism impacts and influences on their quality of life and that of other community members.
(2) The relationship between/influence of their perceptions of tourism impacts on attitudes and support for tourism activities; and
(3) Factors that may influence community attitudes and reactions toward tourism activities.

This survey aims to investigate K’gari tourism impacts on local people and communities (rather than tourists). The research targets three groups of residents: townships on K’gari; residents of River Heads, and Butchulla people. The survey will end by 8th July 2023.
