To maintain the beauty and vast natural diversity of our stunning K’gari, we’re inviting you to join the community of incredibly dedicated volunteers contributing to keeping the beaches and rainforests pristine and debris-free.
Although it can be physically demanding, it is incredibly rewarding when we weigh out the huge amounts of marine debris collected during the period of our Community Beach Clean Up event. Hana Robinson, co-founder of Drop Bear Adventures is inviting all stakeholders to join the program to help us create a continuous marine debris collection solution and establish a volunteer registry for future and ongoing debris collection events.
In 2023, over 250 volunteers rallied to collect an astounding quantity of debris after the floods. In total, the team at Drop Bear Adventures has collected over 53,000kg of debris from the beaches since the inception of the program in 2018.

Up to 50 volunteers can sign up to join the team on their great walk from Sandy Cape to Hook Point over a 13-day program being held from 23rd to 5th April 2026. Volunteers should be fit, able to walk long distances and comfortable bending down and lifting. Volunteers will be equipped with collection bags, PPE, accommodation, meals and sunscreen when signing up to contribute to the program. Drop Bear Adventures is providing all transport over to the island and accommodation at their Eco Retreat! Volunteers can expect to walk approximately 20km over 2.5 days (between 5-10km per day).
With a dedicated ground crew to support the volunteers, it makes it easy for locals and volunteers to contribute to the program. Weigh stations will not only track progress but also serve as a visual testament to the collective impact.

Hana and Mark Robinson are reaching out to stakeholders, including local businesses, environmental organisations, and government agencies, emphasising collaboration as the cornerstone of this Fundraiser. The program’s goal is to create a sustainable, long-term solution that sees marine debris collected on K’gari year-round and puts an emergency plan in place for future flood events.
As the program gains momentum, excitement ripples through the community. Together, we can ensure that K’gari remains a testament to the power of community-driven conservation efforts for generations to come.
