Best management practice isn’t always easy to achieve on the World’s largest sand island – even if it is a World Heritage property.

What you do with your recycling on K’gari is important – donate your containers for “good”

Sadly, recycling is not currently available on the island, instead residents and visitors are encouraged to transport recyclables to the mainland to be disposed of correctly.

Fraser Coast Council is looking to trial recycling for residents later this year. The program will start at Eurong where recycling will be carefully monitored to check for contamination.

On K’gari, you can donate your Containers for Change at Happy Valley Retreat – who donate the proceeds to the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

But if you take your recycling home with you, then why not donate your cash for containers to FIDO’s conservation projects on K’gari?

FIDO recently joined the scheme and is encouraging FINIA members (or anyone with an interest in K’gari’s conservation) to get on board.  All you need to do when you next drop your bottles off at your nearest Cash for Containers provider is quote FIDO’s member number – C11544124. It’s that easy!
