As the K’gari Biosecurity Strategy moves into its implementation phase, BAC has kicked off its actions with a fun, colourful postcard encouraging vehicle drivers to ‘come clean, go clean’ to K’gari.
Featuring two of the BAC’s Rangers, Dakota (Koda) Broome and Preston Doyle, BAC demonstrates how important it is to make sure that your vehicle isn’t bringing any invasive hitchhikers along for a free ride to the island.
Drivers might be surprised to learn where invasive species may be hiding. The back of the postcard provides drivers with a quick inside-and-out washdown checklist covering the chassis and underbody, tyres, wheel arches and mudflaps, grills, winch and cab interior (along with a list of last-chance mainland washdowns) before you drive onto the barge to K’gari.
These simple actions can help prevent threats such as cat’s claw creeper, yellow crazy ants, and Phytophthora cinnamomi from reaching the island. This helps protect K’gari and makes the island more resilient to threats such as climate change.
Postcards will be available through participating tourism providers and are being distributed by the BAC’s Butchulla K’gari Djaa NIAA Rangers.
