K’gari-Fraser Island World Heritage Discovery Centre
The new K’gari-Fraser Island World Heritage Discovery Centre will be based at SeaLink’s Kingfisher Bay Resort. The Discovery Centre is a joint project of the University of the Sunshine Coast and Kingfisher Bay Resort.

For decades, Central Station has been a tourism destination on K’gari. Once the centre of the forestry industry (and a school) when there was logging on K’gari, the site has housed a display explaining the development of K’gari and its various flora and fauna and a picnic area. But the location also has cultural significance to the Butchulla people.

Twenty-one recipients have been awarded a Queensland Citizen Science Grant, with more than $580,000 funding committed over three years to help increase Queenslanders’ participation in citizen science.

Between 9 and 15 June, 2019, FIDO’s Bush Regeneration Program again targeted Happy Valley. Coming from all over Southern Queensland, the group’s volunteers split into two teams and put in over 140 hours of hard work over the week.

In May, the four Butchulla Land and Sea Rangers along with Conway Burns and Chantel Van Wamelen undertook Biosecurity training in conjunction with the Department of Agricultural and Fisheries forest health staff. Presenters included Suzy Perry, Janet McDonald, Louise Shuey and Geoff Pegg.
