4WD Clean-Up Fraser Island
Four Wheel Drive Queensland held their annual Fraser Island Clean-up event on Sunday 2nd June, picking up marine debris along the length of the eastern beach between Dilli Village and Orchid Beach. This year marked the twelfth event held on Fraser Island, thanks to the hard work and organisation of Four Wheel Drive Queensland with the support of QPWS. (more…)

CVA are very excited to be kicking off a brand new photo competition this month. Over the next month we will be asking you to get out around Australia and take photos that celebrate and represent “Conservation in Australia”, to be in the running.
Fraser Island Gallery
Fraser Island lies just off the east coast of Australia. At 122 km long, it is the largest sand island in the world. Majestic remnants of tall rainforest growing on sand and half the world’s perched freshwater dune lakes are found inland from the beach. The combination of shifting sand-dunes, tropical rainforests and lakes makes it an exceptional site.

Join the search for Australia’s finest feral photos!
The Invasive Animals CRC (IA CRC) are once again searching for your photographs of pest or ‘feral’ animals. They are looking for photos showing pest animals living in the wild, the damage caused by pest animals, and also photos that demonstrate the various methods that are available for pest monitoring and humane control. Turtle Nest Relocation – Sandy Cape
Turtle nest relocation gallery.
Loggerhead nests are relocated into 4 “dingo proof” hatching pens that are situated back from possible erosion.
Between 60 and 100 nests are relocated each year, which translates to between 6000 and 7000 eggs which dingoes and sea erosion cannot destroy.
The Importance of Monitoring
For almost two decades there has been obvious evidence of sediment flowing off the roads and creating alluvial plumes in places on Fraser Island.
Fraser Island Conference — “A Natural Laboratory”
The fifth Biennial Fraser Island Conference will be held in the Mt Coot-tha Auditorium in Brisbane on Thursday, 8th August.
The Conference being organized by FIDO with the support of both FINIA and the Fraser Island World Heritage Scientific Advisory Committee is featuring the theme “A Natural Laboratory” which underlines two aspects of the purposes in having these ongoing conferences. (more…)
